When Hayley came up with the idea for this sexy, sultry editorial, her first choice models were Stef and Mina. She new they would be down for the concept, comfortable together, and able to portray the self-empowerment on-camera that we wanted to emphasize though partial nudity.
As I was looking for moodboard inspiration, a lot of Tom Ford and Calvin Klein images came up. From a photography and art direction perspective, these photos were amazing, which is why they were so iconic. But the models photographed looked nothing like the street-casted models we like to use to represent our customers. Not to mention their emphasis on the male gaze.
While we were shooting (in between dousing Stef and Mina's bodies with baby oil), there was a lot of positive conversation about how powerful it is to show bodies that are unconventional as being sexy and desired, something you so rarely see in the fashion and film industry. My ultimate takeaway from these self-made content creators is that you have to be the change that you want to see (not to quote Gandhi because he was problematic AF, I'm sure someone has said something along those lines before him).
Hope you enjoy these images!
